Reviews:
B-Z are always teetering on the edge of exploding into overload and aren’t too afraid to go there"
let rip, hard, fast and with a raucous purposeTheir lo-fi credentials are occasionally a little harsh on the ears as the VUs creep close to the red, but then again some space cadets like their guitar-bass-drums hot, and it adds to the sense that B-Z are always teetering on the edge of exploding into overload and aren’t too afraid to go there either. Khleb has a rich and powerful voice, his singing flowing with a stentorian tone. His intonation frequently calls to mind the plainsong of Orthodox monks as he declaims with rising passion over the ultra-heavy rhythm section of Lv at the bass controls and Amorth on drums. There’s plenty of melodic lines tinkled out on an electric piano and/or organ or delivered with the carefree acoustic strums of Amon Düül, but the trio also know how to let rip, hard, fast and with a raucous purpose, sparks and shards flying until B-Z relent and drop back down into a slumbering sludgy throb or a cursive swarm of resonant feedback.

The three musicians (plus several guest musicians) seem to have a good time jamming and creating strange psychedelia with so much ideas and influences, it would be a blast to see them live on stage some time! Crazy psychedelia meets up with a piano, organ, percussions, didgeridoo, saxophone (ok, I still don’t like the instrument, but so what), russian / ukrainian vocals (Sorry dudes, I can’t figure that out…), rough guitars and a lot of energy. The sound is lo-fi for sure and it feels like the record was recorded live in the studio with some overdubs and it delights the listener with freedom of art and musicianship.
“шифровал” (“Encrypted”) is a fucking treat for your ears! You have to check it out, if you get the chance. It includes everything you love when you listen to psychedelic / space / ritualistic rock, including a great 60’s inspired singalong.
“в один конец” (“At one end”) sound like a dark ritual for the first 4 and a half minutes and reminds me of ANTONIUS REX / JACULA before it gets a lot calmer with acoustic guitars and a flute but the song soon reach his climax including a kind of crazy flute solo.
Another track worth mentioning (well actually all tracks of the record are worth to be mentioned) is “они” (“They”) with it’s great GOBLIN influences, in my humble opinion.

(Orbits)' (English translation of titles courtesy of the band) starts in a noir way; sultry bass and echoing guitar chords before the Russian vocals intone impassionately over the top. There are regular bursts of heavy guitar, a matter of seconds in length and it carries on like this for 3 or 4 minutes until all hell breaks loose....the guitars wail and the drums crash and it all sounds like something that Amphetamine Reptile would release. This glorious cacophony breaks down into bursts of feedback and reverb before the vocals kick in again. It continues like this until the end....passages of heaviness alternating with more sedate (relatively speaking!) passages...exhilarating stuff! (Encrypted) is more glorious noise...after a Zappaeasque, discordant intro the band break into a psychedelic/noise track that is a joy to hear. There is some authentic organ and a female chorus of 'da da da da' and on the face of it it could be a jaunty little homage to the swinging sixties....but it is sheer madness...the guitars are in overdrive, the organ is hammered and there is some skronky sax mixed in. The overall effect is like if Zappa was in the Jesus Lizard and playing some sixties psych/garage...it is mad, refreshing and damned enjoyable. (At One End)' starts with a hum of feedback and drone and some skittering percussion and there are some vaguely audible vocal chants discernible in the background. Treated vocals, again in Russian, wrestle with some eerie whispers and sonic twists and turns. The effect is one of a Russian Nurse With Wound or very early 23 Skidoo. About halfway through this miasma of experimentation stops abruptly and a softly strummed acoustic guitar can be heard. The strumming becomes more urgent and is joined by a shrill penny whistle or recorder and it all sounds like someone has spiked the punch at a local fair with amphetamines. then the comedown hits and it becomes more sedate and downbeat. 'они (They)' starts as a psych/doom number with some Sabbath riffs before the organ joins in and proceedings become very seventies psych rock, bordering on Krautrock, only the Russian vocals belying the fact that ut doesn't originate in Germany in the 1970s. As is becoming apparent by now, things don't stay this settled for long....there are breaks of noise rock where everything goes into overdrive before settling again in the seventies vibe. As the track progresses along it's 14 minutes length there is a definite shift towards the groovier side of things with the drums laying down some serious groove and there are some spacey electronica effects to give it all a funky cosmic feel. Another cracking track. (Silent Space)' is the last, and the longest track at a shade over 20 minutes. It starts with silence punctuated by an occasional deep drum. A drone is introduced with some Gregorian style chanting and snippets of spoken word vocals. Some reverb drenched guitar chords herald a change in style; the atmosphere remains funereal but there is some doom added to the drone. Some spacey effects are also added and it all comes together nicely and it really does feel like a trip into the darkness of the cosmos.

Welcome to the dungeons of 60´s psych-rock, you can check out anytime but you can never leave.
The album title is translated into English as "It became even worse" and for fans of 3 minute pop songs, this is absolute horror.
But for those who are eager to open the door to the unknown and explore music for the strenuous intellect, you are good to go for 1 hour of escapism.
Please welcome the 2nd album from the Kharkiv, Ukraine based trio Bil Z´s lo-fi psychedelic band.
They call themselves a tape-band and conceptually releases their stuff only on tape as a physical format, the songs are in Russian but with the help of Google translate, the titles are 1."Orbit" 2."Encrypted" 3."One way" 4."They" 5."Silent space".
Imagine if Iron Butterfly was in the same room as Brian Eno and got the re-write the music for the Clockwork Orange Soundtrack from 1971, the result could very well be this album.
Best track : "They".
(+) I am amazed over how retro and contemporary it sounds.
(-) Even the lengthy "Silent space" is quite a test for a progrock fan like myself.

(Byl Zamechen ) created in 2010 in Kharkiv of Ukraine and стало ещё только хуже is their second album which is released in cassette format. But what a tape !!!! We are talking about incredible construction! Anyway,in the content now we are finding five songs drenched by a manic musical elegy full of drone, noise, avant garde, tribe, kraut and scattered psychedelic and stoner touches. And no, I don't think that their sound is chaotic, but quite specific, certainly the schizophrenic structure of their songs will knock your door, but don't worry !! Everything will be fine! Extremely interesting sound, highly recommended to those who have their ears and minds wide open !! A release with incredible package like I said in the beginning, but only in 51 numbered copies.

Sweet psychedelic sludge from Ukraine: pessimistic yet strangely entertaining.
There’s gloomy conceptuality about this band who strictly stick to cassettes when it comes to physical releases but defend their digital corner in a cyberspace on a download base, and remain faithful to lowercase rendition of titles as if trying to substantiate their name – translating from Russian as BEEN NOTICED. Indeed, it’s hard to ignore the boogie undercurrent of “шифровал” cast to a stoner setting which, as the slow smolder of opener “глазницы” seems to suggest, is a default one here, yet a jazzy piano ripple under singer Khleb’s chthonic riffs evaporates the heaviness to turn it into a different type of murky miasma.
Bulging with Iv’s bass, the five pieces on display are prone to unexpected tempo changes that keeps one on their toes despite the multiple platitudes – when lyrics crawl from under the noise, that is – and parping sax only adds to the overall hallucinogenic effect, while occasional air of innocent paranoia could have hung above Manson-stricken City of Angels. Still, even with a hefty organ layer as a means of solemnity, the 20-minute desperate dirge “молчаливый космос” doesn’t fare well, whereas the tribal patterns of “в один конец” fail to enliven its trance-inducing spoken word and clanging of the chains until a flute takes it all on a folk field and then down a SABBATH shaft. Once there, the electronica-tinctured fest c”они” is unfolding in a mad swirl of rhythm, so the album’s title – meaning “It became even worse” – drowns on a dancefloor. Weird it may be, but that’s the core of it all: the grave groove. Get up and cry the tears of joy, then.
